3. Work Description:
A. Project 1. Bright Fluorescent Material Design
The student will be involved in design, development and deployment of functional web interfaces and backend infrastructure for an NSF funded multi-modal data organization project for material science. This project includes NLP base scientific data extraction from literature and computational and wet lab experiments and present the data for review and post processing. The student will be involved in realizing existing designs for the interfaces, creating back-end code that interacts with SMILES data catalog and extending the current data creation and ingestion pipelines. The NLP extensions will involve modifications to Chemical Data Extractor for SMILES specific data such as redox data, image to chemical information, creating and enhance graph networks for SMILES and subsequent
Graph analysis for SMILES deliverables. The data extracted needs to be integrated into SMILES Data infrastructure. The work is expected to involve extensions to core distributed computing framework software (Apache Airavata, Airavata Datalog) to HPC applications (CDE-Scrape and CDE-Extract) and workflows (Quantum Chemistry and Data extraction) and user interface design (SMILES Interface Designs) and development (SMILES Data catalog) for different stakeholders such experimental chemists, computational chemists and others.

This project requires deployment of legacy scientific applications with possible CI-CD pipelines, designing graphical applications interfaces and integrating job submission and management infrastructures and enabling data catalogs for data enabled and data driven research. A new AMOS data catalog will be designed and deployed such that AMOS results can be quickly discovered if already computed and setup new runs if not. The work is expected to involve extensions to core distributed computing framework software (Apache Airavata, Airavata Data catalog) to HPC AMOS applications and workflows.
